Graphic Design Rules for Packaging Products

Graphic design, also known as communication design, is the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The form of the communication can be physical or virtual, and may include images, words, or graphic forms.

For packaging product design, you should not only focus on the print design, you must also take the shape of the packaging products into consideration. The following are some rules graphic designers should know while designing packaging products.

Visible sides design
As we know, a regular packaging box has six sides. Usually, graphic designers have to design the five visible sides. The importance of each visual side is different. You should pay special attention to the design of the main visual side. You'd better combine text and close-up image while designing the main visible side.

Overall design
All visible sides of the packaging box should look harmonious together. You should know that packaging products are three-dimensional. Consider the visual attraction of each visible side, also take the concordance of overall look into consideration.

Here is an example
In order to show the natural look of the kraft packaging materials, our designer only used text words on all the visible sides.
